Rembrandt

Experienced tourist guide for tour Rijksmuseum
Rembrandt painting Syndics drapers guild

In the tracks of Rembrandt, approximately 2.5 hours.

During this walking tour I will take you through the events in the life of this famous Dutch painter. We will visit the house where he used to live and work as well as other places where he painted his famous works.

Our route will take us to the historic building ‘De Waag’ where the well known painting 'The Anatomy Lesson of dr. Nicolaes Tulp' was painted. Then we will pass the house of 'Syndics of the Drapers' Guild' where he painted the work with the same name.

We continue the tour with a visit to the Rijksmuseum where you can admire the paintings we discussed earlier in the tour and other work painted during the Golden Age. Work of artists like Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen and Frans Hals.

Jordaan

The Jordaan, approximately 2.5 hours:

During this tour I will explain the history of the Jordaan, how a poor and neglected old district turned into an attractive and trendy neighbourhood. We will take a look at the tiny houses with their quirky facades. Some of these facades are tilting. Do you want to know why? I will tell you during the tour!

We will visit a couple of charming court yards, see little boutiques and trendy fashion shops and an old-fashioned candy shop where they sell typical Dutch Stroopwafels (syrup waffles) and Drop.

To let it sink in, we could take a little break in a cafe to have a snack like a so-called bitterballen and a beer or a cup of coffee with apple pie.

We will continue our way and if you like, we could visit a design shop of furniture of Marcel Wanders. One of his famous designs is the Knotted Chair.

On the way back we will pass a typical old cafe in the Jordaan where in the evening you will meet locals and maybe even join in for a song.
